In today’s conditions, where our need for water is increasing day by day and water scarcity is on the rise in parallel with this increasing need, water saving is an inevitable topic. Pimtaş, which makes significant contributions to the plastic construction materials sector, aims to save 300-400 tonnes of water per year from a tap that uses water for two hours a day with an aerator that can be attached to the taps as plastic in order to save water consumption.

Pimtaş Plastik, one of the service companies in the plastic construction materials sector for 50 years, was established in 1977 by two partners. Pimtaş Chairman Şamil Tahmaz says that although their main production is plastic construction materials, they also provide services in other sectors such as agriculture, tourism, industry, white goods and automotive, and recently they have been aiming to protect drinking water for sustainable water supply and use. Tahmaz states that in order to save water consumption, they produce aerators that can be attached to taps in plastic.

The company aims to increase its innovative, value-added production capacities and product diversity by keeping up with the changing technology. Stating that they continue to invest in machinery and equipment for the products they will launch in 2022, Şamil Tahmaz said, “We were bringing 400 to 600 containers of products annually, and when imports started to become difficult, we started to produce production ourselves in order not to lose the market we had. We continue our work in the field of sustainability. We are on our way to becoming a company that grows fast and efficiently, can sell to every region of the world and provide foreign currency inflow to our country. We have added our digital sales channels to the traditional sales channels in our sector, and we continue to offer digital solutions to our customers on the sales and collection side.”

As a company, you develop products in almost every field. Could you tell us the story of Pimtaş and briefly about your activities?

We are a 50-year-old company established as two partnerships. The story of our company located in Pendik continues today in Gebze Organised Industrial Zone. Our company, which is managed by the first and second generation, continues to work within a corporate structure. We offer half of the products we manufacture to the domestic market, while the other half is subject to export.

We have an R&D centre and a recycling facility with a production capacity of approximately 250 tonnes. We produce value-added products under our own brand name. While exporting to over 120 countries, our target this year is to export 60 per cent of our production. Our company, which has continued its journey with 35 per cent growth since 2000, continues its rapid rise in the sector. We have recently established our 200 thousand square metre facility. We have decided to manufacture all of our products here.

“WE REACHED 13 THOUSAND FARMERS”

One of your areas of interest is agriculture. Could you tell us about the “Expert Farmer Platform” you established in this context?

We established the “Expert Farmer Platform”, which we initiated in order to prevent our farmers from giving their products at the lowest price and the products going to the consumer at the highest level. Expert Farmer has become a platform where our farmers, who produce in accordance with the standards in accordance with the traceable agricultural platform, can determine the prices of their products themselves and sell their products directly to the final consumer.

With this application, we remove additional costs such as shipment and warehousing on the product. The consumer can instantly access freshly harvested fresh products at an affordable price from the nearest farmer. With the imprint we have created, consumers can access the story of the products that come to the table. All the questions you have in mind, such as in which month the product was planted, which pesticides were used, whether it is organic or not, when it was harvested, can be easily learnt with a single click via QR code. We have reached 13 thousand farmers so far. Our goal is to increase productivity by implementing advanced agricultural practices with 100 thousand farmers. We pay attention to the integration of every stage of the production process from field to cover, from warehouse to table. In cooperation with Kocaeli Municipality, we have trained over 40 thousand farmers in our R&D centre and provided them with certificates.

In order to keep up with advanced technology and produce environmentally friendly products, we focus on information technologies and continue our R&D studies with universities. We continue our work on projects by focusing on processes for activities. We determine the needs of farmers and develop our production accordingly. We produce covers from Agril fabric, which is the most effective solution for quality harvest and weed control in agriculture. Under the cover, it stays 3 to 5 degrees above the temperature above it and keeps the plant warm like a quilt. The purpose of this is to support the root development of the plant and increase the quality and yield of the product.

Today, at least 40 per cent of the world’s population is experiencing water shortages. What are you doing to minimise the effects of drought and water scarcity?
